Animal minds are embodied. We’re learning to read them.

Sausage Labs builds AI to understand dogs through their bodies. By analyzing movement, posture, and facial expressions, we translate physical signals into insights about canine minds. We build non-invasive tools to improve health outcomes and deepen the bond between dogs and their humans.

Thesis

Animal minds are embodied. Their body tells a continuous story of health, cognition, emotion, and intent, written in the grammar of posture and movement. Millennia of coexistence gave humans the intuition to feel this story; AI gives us the tools to decode it, uncovering what was once unreadable and redefining how we understand and care for dogs.

Work

Using AI and computer vision, we combine motion tracking, pose estimation, and morphometric analysis of images and video to surface health and communication markers in dogs.

Project

We apply our work by building apps for wellness tracking in dachshunds (a.k.a. sausage dogs or wiener dogs). We focus on IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease), which affects many breeds but strikes one in four dachshunds, where early detection is not just helpful, but urgent.
